National Institute of Biomedical Innovation (NIBIO), Osaka
Postdoctoral Research Associate (or Research Assistant) in Bioinformatics
Updated Dec 26, 2014
In the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Group at the NIBIO, we carry out bioinformatics and computational biology research into drug discovery and development (with special emphasis on early-stage target discovery and safety prediction). Our research involves both the analysis of real-life experimental data and the development of novel computational techniques, aiming to establish systems approaches to drug discovery.
A position is currently open, either as a postdoctoral research associate or a research assistant (programmer/systems engineer), to contribute to one or more of the following research areas:analysis of large-scale experimental data and the development of integrated databases for target discovery and safety prediction; prediction of protein-protein or protein-small molecule interactions, modelling of their impact on phenotypic responses and applications to drug design.
See mizuguchilab.org for more details.

The successful postdoctoral applicant will have a PhD degree in a subject relevant to our research, including Computational Biology (bioinformatics, systems biology), Computer Science, Statistics, Pharmacology, Chemistry (computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry) and Biology (structural biology, molecular and cell biology). At least one of the following conditions must be satisfied: 1) a strong background in software engineering and the ability to develop novel biofinformatic software/databases, 2) experience in handling large-scale biological data such as those from microarray and proteomics experiments and 3) the ability to analyze small-molecule compounds using tools in chemoinformatics and computer-aided drug design.
A good balance of scientific and interpersonal skills will be essential and willingness to tackle interdisciplinary research questions is advantageous. The successful research assistant must have experience with linux cluster administration and a good command of Japanese.
