Seminar was held as a collaborative work(2017.4.26)

calendar April 26th, 14:30~

place the seminar room@second floor of the annex, National Institute of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition

Guest Speaker: Dr. Janez Konc (Assistant Professor, Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia)

Seminar title:GenProBiS: Web Server for Mapping of Sequence Variants to Protein Binding Sites

Abstract: GenProBiS web server ( maps sequence variants to protein structures from the Protein Data Bank (PDB), and further to protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid, protein-compound, protein-metal ion binding sites. The server allows intuitive visual exploration of comprehensively mapped variants, such as human somatic missense mutations related to cancer and non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms from several species, within the predicted binding sites regions for about 80,000 PDB protein structures using fast Molmil enabled graphics.

Thank you for attending our seminar with Dr Janez!!

Postdoctoral Research Associate (or Research Assistant) in Bioinformatics

In the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Group at the NIBIOHN, we carry out bioinformatics and computational biology research into drug discovery and development (with special emphasis on early-stage target discovery and toxicity prediction). Our research involves both the analysis of real-life experimental data and the development of novel computational techniques, aiming to establish systems approaches to drug discovery.

See for more details.

A position is currently open, either as a postdoctoral research associate or a research assistant (programmer/systems engineer).

[Number of post]

[Qualification requirements]

The successful postdoctoral applicant has or will have a PhD degree in a subject relevant to our research, including Computational Biology (bioinformatics, systems biology), Computer Science, Statistics, Pharmacology, Chemistry (computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry) and Biology (structural biology, molecular and cell biology). At least one of the following conditions must be satisfied: 1) a strong background in software engineering and the ability to develop novel biofinformatic software/databases with new technologies including big data analytics and artificial intelligence, 2) experience in handling clinical and/or large-scale biological data such as those from transcriptomic and proteomic experiments and 3) the ability to analyze small-molecule compounds and their targets using tools in chemoinformatics and computer-aided drug design. The successful research assistant must have experience with linux cluster administration and a good command of Japanese.

A good balance of scientific and interpersonal skills will be essential and willingness to tackle interdisciplinary research questions is advantageous.
